Black History Month – The Lincoln Theater

The Lincoln Theater

Thanks to generous support from Councilmember Curren Price of Council District Nine, CRCD has invested in acquiring the Historic Lincoln Theater! The iconic landmark will be renovated to its former glory and will be used as a venue to provide access to art, music and for
hosting community events. The large adjacent parking lot will provide ample space for CRCD to building new affordable and permanent supportive housing in our South LA community while maintaining the integrity of the adjacent historic monument. We will be sharing more
information as it becomes available.

Black History Month – Ralph Bunche House and Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building

The Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building was a “symbol of black enterprise and of loyal service to many thousands.” It represented hope, pride, and a sense of belonging for African Americans in Los Angeles and across the country. While the Ralph J. Bunche House pays homage to the first African American to receive the Nobel peace prize, the first African American to gain a Ph.D. in political science from an American university and the first Black member to be inducted into the American Philosophical Society, was a resident of South Los Angeles.
